The Gotham Awards, which kicks off the annual movie awards season, took place tonight at Cipriani Wall Street in New York with the Sebastian Stan-led “A Different Man” took home the prize of Best Picture.
The adaptation of the Colson Whitehead novel “Nickel Boys” and the Colman Domingo-led prison drama “Sing Sing” won multiple honors. The former snagged breakthrough performer and director honors, the latter took best lead and supporting actor honors.
Also making waves was “The People’s Joker” director Vera Drew who won breakthrough director, while “His Three Daughters” took best screenplay for writer Azazel Jacobs. Also winning were “No Other Land” for best documentary and “All We Imagine as Light” for best international feature.
Sean Baker’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner “Anora” led the field with four nominations but left empty handed, as did fellow Best Picture nominees “Babygirl” and “Challengers”.
A series of tributes were also handed out to “The Piano Lesson” cast, Dune: Part Two’s director Denis Villeneuve, actresses Zendaya and Angelina Jolie, and A Complete Unknown‘s Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold.
